Hi! I’m Johnna.
I’m a 28 year old living in Lexington, KY.
Fitness is my thing. Running in particular. Since 2013, I’ve run 4 half-marathons and 2 full marathons. I’m also a newbie Catholic, having being received into the Church in April 2017. Both of these things go hand in hand for me. Discipline = holiness.
In fact, that’s where the name of this blog comes from. In the 12th chapter of Hebrews, the author (originally attributed to Paul, but there’s some doubt) writes about a race towards Jesus, and how important discipline is when it comes to cultivating the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
Hebrews 12: 5-6. You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.”
That chapter talks about the sons of God, but I think there’s an important message for His daughters. I truly believe that God used my running to lead me to the Catholic Church. Now I believe that there’s more to learn about the connection between this physical discipline and spiritual disciplines.
St. John Paul II had a lot to say about the feminine genius and the theology of the body. I want to see if any of his wisdom can be tied into my running. This website focuses on that exploration.
Other than fitness, my interests are Alabama football, reading and writing, culture, education, social justice, and personal development.
